Efren Rebugio Jr., a first-generation Filipino-American based in Austin, TX, creates dynamic murals that weave together vibrant color, abstract energy, and cultural storytelling. Influenced by a life spent near Florida and Hawaii’s coastlines and inspired by graffiti, Efren’s work celebrates individuality and collective humanity. His self-taught journey and background in graphic design inform his eye for composition and detail.

Efren's murals aim to highlight community voices and values. His work spans nationwide brand campaigns, corporate environments, mural festivals, and both public and private commissions. Each piece showcases his expertise in spray paint while sharing narratives that foster connections through community engagement and collaborative storytelling.

From large-scale installations at iconic venues like The Moody Center in Austin to murals that celebrate resilience and cultural identity like the Asian American Pacific Islander Heroes Mural Campaign project with Amplify Asian, Efren’s work aims to inspire introspection, cultivate joy and beautify spaces.

RECENT STUFF

Cover Design

March 2026

Big Infinite - “In The Mud Again”

I had the pleasure of working with Big Inifinite on designing the cover for their recent single “In The Mud Again”. I’ve designed a few things for them in the past when they were called Fiction 20 Down back in 2011. I had a lot of fun creating this artwork for them. Using a style of I’ve explored in recent years when painting a mural, I brought this composition into this design work.

SUMMER TRIP 2023

MAY - JUN 2023

:)

Me and Brittany Johnson, BRITT PAINTSALOT, hit the road for a couple months and painted murals in Ithaca, New York and then up in Montana for Montana Arts Festival! We did commission murals and got to freestyle murals, too! We always have a blast on the road, meeting other artists, enjoying nature, and spending time together and with our pup, Charlie! We hope you had a good summer too! I’ll be posting more photos here! Thanks for reading!

HULAWEEN 2022

OCT 2022

I am beyond honored that I got to design the Spirit Lake stage for Hulaween this year!!!! It was 2 months of planning. I had to google what a technical drawing was! This is the first time I’ve done anything like this. I’m excited for the possibilities with this project in the years to come. If you were there, I hope you enjoyed it!

MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT! I’m stoked to share my latest project!! I created a mural NFT in collaboration with ATX DAO! Collectors of the NFT will be granted governance rights through a decentralized autonomous organization to vote on next the Austin Artist to fund.

This groundbreaking new art program is generating public support for local artists through crypto innovation, NFT technology and immersive mixed reality storytelling.

It’s true that Austin’s growth as a city is massive and that comes with its own challenges for artists, but with initiatives like this, we can bring value to the impermanence of some murals and empower the community to support local artists while preserving this incredible culture.
